Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use a Professional Organizer?

Organization affects all aspects of living. A Professional Organizer will get your chaos under control so you feel more in control of your life. They develop individualized systems and processes that work for you. Simplicity is the code word for those processes and systems which make sense to you, so you continue to use them throughout your life.

How do I get started?

It is important to be comfortable with the organizer you select. For the relationship to work there must be mutual trust.

How long will it take?

It depends on 2 factors: how much you wish to accomplish; how quickly and easily you can make decisions. Be ready to tell me whether you are focusing in a few areas for a reasonably quick fix, or if you want to work through the entire house for long-term changes. Your plan, which we develop together will maximize the results you desire.

Will you make me throw out most of my stuff?

Absolutely not! Being organized is about taking control of your possessions, not letting them control you. Together we determine what is important and find solutions to keep those items. There will be some elimination - but only the items you decide to part with.

Should I straighten or clean up before you come?

Please DON’T! I am not judgemental in my observations. It is important for me to see your real situation and where the tight spots are.

Do I need to buy supplies?

Not yet. Together we figure out what you want to do, how much will be discarded and how you want to organize what remains. Buying inappropriate supplies may create more clutter.

Can I work on my own between sessions?

Absolutely! After working together, we can establish a “homework” list for you to accomplish before our next session. If you can take guidance and truly focus on the process of going through your “homework” list, you will see quick progress. It is an excellent way to lower your cost. Sometimes people want their organizer beside them to keep them focused, moving more quickly and making better decisions about elimination. Which ever situation you prefer. I can work side by side with you and/or give suggestions for you to accomplish between sessions.

Do you charge for travel?

Not if you are within a 45 minute drive. Over 45 minutes, I charge travel time at half my hourly rate.

How much will this cost?

We discuss my fees as part of our initial planning meeting. Package rates are available for a discount. Fees are payable at the end of each session. If The Randall Company purchases pre-authorized products for use, the cost of the supplies is due when they are delivered. Cash or checks are accepted. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required for all scheduled appointments. If less than 24 hours notice is given, clients are charged for one full hour.

What does it mean to be organized?

It means regularly being able to find what you need when you need it and getting things done on time. Many of us think neat people are organized and messy people are disorganized. That is not necessarily true! Organization is not the same for everyone. Some prefer a clutter-free environment while others can relax being surrounded by certain piles or quantities of their possessions. Organized people have learned habits, systems, processes and skills which work well for them. Every person and family is unique.

By understanding your needs, what is important to you and how you function, I can help develop processes that work for you.
